Duchybus (Fowey Bus Services) commenced operating with the closure of the Lostwithiel to Fowey branch line to passenger trains in 1966. The present proprietor has operated the business since 1970 to date, but the nature of the business has changed over the years. We no longer operate local bus services, indeed at present only occasional day trips by coach are operated- and for 2008 with another operator's vehicle- but with yours truly driving!
The 1952 ex London transport greenline coach that we had is now run by Western Greyhound at Summercourt near Newquay, but we are chasing (slowly) a 1953 26 seater ex London transport RURAL bus- but more of that drekkly- if it happens.
Currently operated are the three model 'A' Ford cars of 1929/ 30 vintage, and our Mercedes 7 or 8 seat plus driver, luxury people carrier. This latter vehicle has a variable seat layout and for weddings over around 30 miles from Lostwithiel is used to 'trailer' one of the old ladies to and from the function. On arrival the Mercedes can act as a second car to convey bridesmaids, and others, thus the hirer gets two vehicles for a reasonable fee as opposed to a rather expensive fee if just one model 'A' was used and driven all the way to and from the venue.
We can cover virtually the whole of Cornwall and parts of Devon too, but charges depend on time and distance plus an initial hire fees.
At this point in time there are no other genuine Ford model 'A' cars in as good a condition as ours available for weddings and other events in Cornwall. There is a firm in the Plymouth area that operates very nice replica (modern imitation) model 'A' Fords, BUT OUR VEHICLES ARE THE GENUINE ARTICLE - and very smart too -
